Ghanaian international Joseph Paintsil has spoken about rumors that linked him to a summer transfer to Southampton and why he chose to stay at KRC Genk.
The forward is one of many Ghanaian players who received media attention on numerous occasions before the transfer window’s closure. Joseph Paintsil acknowledged that Southampton FC showed interest in acquiring him from KRC Genk.
Joseph Paintsil revealed in an interview with “Het Laatste Nieuws” that his mother had encouraged him to join Southampton.

He claimed that in choosing to stay at Genk, he had followed his heart.
“Many people whose opinion I respect told me that I should leave this summer. Even my mother asked me to opt for a transfer.

“My godmother told me Southampton is a good club, you will do well there. But my heart said no,” Paintsil said.
After 10 games this season,Paintsil has three assists and one goal across all competitions for Genk.
