Petrocub Hîncești, the reigning Moldovan champions, has severed ties with Ghanaian football administrator Nana Yaw Amponsah, who served as a member of the club’s leadership.
This news comes as a surprise, as Amponsah and his Samaritan Investment Group were appointed earlier this year to lead the Municipal Stadium club.
Amponsah, formerly the Chief Executive Officer of Asante Kotoko, took on the role of club president, marking a significant turning point for Petrocub Hîncești.
His leadership helped the club achieve a historic double, winning the Moldovan Premier League title for the first time and capturing the Moldovan Cup in the recently concluded season.
However, a disagreement over the club’s future direction led to a heated dispute between Amponsah and the Petrocub Hîncești board of directors, ultimately resulting in the termination of his contract and the withdrawal of all players acquired under his administration.
This decision has left the club in a precarious position as they prepare for their maiden UEFA Champions League campaign, which begins today.
Amponsah, who left Asante Kotoko last year after a tenure that began in 2020, secured a Ghana Premier League title for the Porcupine Warriors during his time with the club.
