Renowned tactician, Johnson Smith has confirmed his sacking from Asante Kotoko as assistant coach.
The 53-year old has been sacked from his position as assistant coach of the Ghana Premier league heavyweight with two months left on his contract.[ads2]
In a quote attributed to Kumasi-based Silver FM, Johnson Smith disclosed that the Chief Executive Officer of the club, Nana Yaw Amponsah fired him through a minute phone call.
He stated that he has not received any contract termination letter from the management of Asante Kotoko despite the phone call from the club’s CEO.[ads3]
Smith continued that, “my contract will expire in November and I have not been paid for four months, so I am waiting for them [Kotoko] to do the right things.”
He joined Asante Kotoko in October 2019 on a two-year deal after guiding Karela United to the finals of the Normalization Committee Special Competition.[ads4]
Johnson Smith assisted Norwegian coach Kjetil Zachariassen before Maxwell Konadu took over.
He became the interim head coach of Asante Kotoko in December 2020 before the appointment of Portuguese trainer Mariano Barreto as substantive coach.
Meanwhile, Asante Kotoko have appointed Ocloo and John Eduafo as first and second assistant coaches to new head coach Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum.[ads5]
