Former member Member of Parliament for Nadowli Kaleo Constituency in the Upper West region, Alban Bagbin has been elected new speaker for the 8th Parliament.
The former Deputy Speaker of the 7th Parliament was elected the new speaker during an election of a new speaker for the 8th parliament on January 7, 2021.[ads2]
Right from the dissolution of the 7th Parliament cake with a marathon of confusion on the floor of Parliament as to who becomes the leader of the house.
It is believed that after the election process, Alban Bagbin defeated the NPP’s candidate Professor Mike Aaron Oquaye who is the immediate past speaker, with about three votes to clinched the seat.[ads3]
The election was held at about 2:00am on January 7 through to 6:00am where Alban Bagbin emerged victorious.[ads5]
