Dr. Da Costa Aboagye, the CEO of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), has revealed a new program that will allow Ghanaians to receive free medical examinations on their birthdays at any healthcare facility.
Dr. Aboagye revealed that the committee in charge of carrying out this initiative is nearing the end of its stakeholder engagement process during a media interview on Thursday, May 16. He expressed his satisfaction that the NHIA has optimized its procedures to enable the achievement of this objective.
According to Dr. Aboagye, this initiative further demonstrates the NHIA’s dedication to improving Ghanaians’ access to healthcare services and encouraging preventative health management practices.
He emphasized that NHIA aims to enable people to take control of their health and address possible health concerns early on by offering free medical checkups on birthdays.
“Now we are offering every Ghanaian the opportunity to go to any health facility on their date of birth or month of birth to at least check their vitals once a month.
“We are almost done with the work and we will be starting very soon. We have really worked hard to ensure this intervention is implemented at the earliest possible time.”
“So we have even cut some of the processes that we use to make sure we implement this, the committee is at the tail end of doing the stakeholder engagements then implementation will start. So, for me, that will be good news and it will revolutionize our healthcare architecture in such a way that we will reduce some of these diseases and non-communicable diseases,” Dr Aboagye said.
The objective of this initiative is to decrease the occurrence of non-communicable diseases in the nation and prioritize preventive care, to revolutionize the healthcare system.
