Ghanaian artist and businessman, Nhyiraba Kojo has freed 12 inmates of the Sekondi prisons after paying off their fines.
The entrepreneur has also promised to build a proper water system for the correctional facility. Nhyiraba Kojo’s gesture is coming after he was sentenced to 30 days in the Sekondi prisons. According to him, the condition in the prisons needs serious improvement of which he has decided to assist.
According to him, some of the prisoners are rotting in jail due to fines they could not pay and as a result, he has decided to pay it off for them.
“I would have wished to free many prisoners but most of them do not have fines placed on them. These ones were unable to pay their fines and that is why I decided to free them”, he indicated.
The Ghanaian businessman was jailed for failing to comply with a court order. This was after three residents of Fijai complained about health implications of noise emanating from his NK City Nightclub. He was sued for noise pollution.
In appreciation of the challenges faced by inmates, Nhyiraba Kojo paid the fines of 12 inmates to be freed.
The inmates were appreciative of the gesture and promised to live decent lifestyles.
