Gunmen, suspected to be kidnappers, invaded the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH), Ituku Ozalla, in Enugu State on Tuesday morning.
The gunmen also abducted a female deputy director of nursing services, and a security man working in the hospital.
Around nine in the morning, the deputy director was being followed to the hospital’s grounds while operating a sport utility vehicle (SUV).
Sources in the hospital told our correspondent that the gunmen shot directly at the woman’s car, forcing her to a stop before whisking her away.
In a video that went viral, it was possible to see a bullet hole in the front passenger side of the abandoned car. Both the hospital’s management and the Enugu State Police Command have not yet verified the assault.
A medical doctor was kidnapped a few weeks prior, and according to one of the sources, the incident happened at the same location.
One staff member expressed distress and said, “This is so sad; we are not safe at all in this hospital; everywhere is porous.”
