The Minority leader of Parliament, Haruna Iddrisu has kicked against the police for preventing the NDC MPs to petition the Electoral Commission.
On Tuesday, December 22, the NDC MPs led by the Minority leader Haruna Iddrisu and Chief Whip, Muntaka Mubarak, stormed the Electoral Commission headquarters to petition the body on the 2020 December polls.[ads2]
The MPs were prevented from going beyond a barricade around the Ridge Roundabout in Accra.
The MPs defied the orders of the police who said they were not aware of any walk by the Minority to the EC offices.[ads3]
Speaking at a press conference, Haruna Iddrisu who is the MP for Tamale South has slammed the police for preventing them to send their petition to the Electoral Commission chairperson Jean Mensa.
“Let me send a strong warning to the police that the New Patriotic Party government will not rule Ghana forever,” Mr. Iddrisu said..[ads4]
“We will continue to work with police that are professional, not police that think that they can be compelled by the power of the state to undermine our rights and freedoms”, he added…
Some of the MPs who undertook the walk include A.B.A Fuseini, Mahama Ayariga, Mutawakilu Adam, Laadi Ayii Ayamba among others.[ads5]
