The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has maintained the Kumawu seat with Ernest Yaw Anim winning the by-election held on Tuesday, May 23, 2023.
Yaw Anim won the by-election with a huge gap against his main competitors Kwasi Amankwaa of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and Kwaku Duah Snr who contested as an independent candidate.
Ernest Yaw Anim who is an astute accountant accumulated 15, 264 votes against Kwasi Amankwaa and Kwaku Duah Snr who amassed 3,723 and 2,497 respectively.
He has replaced Philip Basoah who was announced dead on March 28, 2023 hence the by-election.
Ernest Yaw Anim is a chartered accountant and was a senior Accountant at Vanguard Properties Development, Ghana.
He held several positions at Vanguard including Financial Controller where he managed an annual budget of over $4m on four different projects.
He also ensured compliance with all regulatory frameworks – companies code, and taxation.
Before joining Vanguard, he was an Account Officer at Millennium Development Authority Ghana and has also worked as Assistant Manager, Tax Services for Nobisfields.
Ernest Yaw Anim was a graduate assistant at Ohio University Economics Department and holds the following qualifications:
Masters of Financial Economics at Ohio University, Professional Certificate in Accounting from ACCA and B.Com from the University Of Cape Coast.
He is a member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA)
