The Asantehene and life patron of Kumasi Asante Kotoko Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has destooled Abuontemhene of Kumasi Traditional Council Nana Kwaku Duah III for illegitimately selling of lands in his territory.
The Kumasi Traditional Council assembled on Monday, August 21, at the Manhyia Palace to discuss the matter when the announcement was made.
Accusations made by other subchiefs brought about the decision to remove Nana Kwaku Duah III from his role as divisional chief.
The subchiefs charged him with disobeying Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s orders as well as selling lands, including one that was under investigation even after receiving a trespassing notice from Otumfuo.
The subchiefs made a number of accusations, including that he exploited Otumfuo’s name to secure consent for his actions on the disputed property in spite of the ongoing investigations.
The specific charge of using Otumfuo’s name as leverage for his conduct was disputed by Nana Kwaku Duah III in response to the accusations.

He however admitted to being on the land, though, and said that he had given others permission to work there.
Otumfuo responded by announcing the decision to destool Nana Kwaku Duah III, underlining how his acts had gone against his instructions and authority.
