Sprinter Abdul Rasheed Saminu of Ghana has spoken out about the baton exchange incident that resulted in the disqualification of the country’s 4x100m relay team for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
The team placed sixth in their heat and was disqualified for a changeover violation that was discovered during the race’s last leg. With partner Benjamin Azamati, Saminu also participated in the 100m events.
Ghana’s 4x100m relay campaign came to a disappointing end with their disqualification; this is reminiscent of their experience in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, where they were also eliminated due to a baton exchange error in the final.
“I think with the first call, I missed the hand, so I had to bring it back again to make the legal contact. Next time we just make sure we correct the mistakes and come back again.” he told Joysports.
