Parliament has rejected the Gh¢80million additional budgetary allocation for the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture for the National Cathedral of Ghana.[ads2]
This was after the Minority members on the Trade, Industry and Tourism Committee of Parliament won by a majority decision to reject the allocation.
The allocation was contained in the Appropriations Bill of the 2023 fiscal policy.[ads3]
According to the Minority MPs on the Committee, representatives of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture couldn’t account for the over GH¢300 million already spent on the project hence their decision to reject the Gh¢80million allocation.
Aside the Ministry not able to account properly on monies already spent on the project, the Minority MPs rejected the allocation with a reason that officials of the Finance Ministry also failed to convince them on the need for the allocation.[ads4]
The Minority MPs who were more than the Majority MPs on the Committee as at the time of the voting won by 11-10 votes.[ads5]
