Items worth thousands of cedis were destroyed early Wednesday morning at the Agona Nkwanta market in the Western region after stores were razed by fire.
The fire reportedly started this dawn at 3:00am and swept through two chop-bar and warehouse filled with confectioneries, rubber products, can products and other items.
It is unclear what caused the fire but eyewitness told www.kyfilla.com that the fire emanated from a chop-bar where palm nut was on fire.
The 2IC fire officer, Frank Asiamah Yankah said illegal electrical connections and the use of fire in the market is a worry to them.
He also stated that lack of access paths to the market and the poor road network is a worry to them.
He also added that “the Agona Nkwanta fire Service have to travel all the way to Sekondi to fill the tank with water before attending to any fire outbreak because the Ahanta West fire service do not have any”.
He, therefore advised the public to cultivate the habit of complying with fire safety measures and stop illegal electrical connections.
