The Borteyman Sports Complex has formally been opened by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo ahead of the 2023 African Games in Accra.
The Accra 2023 African Games’ athletics competitions will take place at this venue.
For the first time in its history, Ghana will host the games starting on March 8, 2024, with 54 participating nations in 30 sporting disciplines eight of which will serve as Olympic qualifiers in Paris in 2024.
Five tennis courts, including a centre court with seating for up to 1000 spectators, and three multipurpose sports halls for volleyball, badminton, table tennis, and basketball will be housed in the 50,000-seat Olympic stadium at Borteyman.
The venues for handball, athletics, tennis, and swimming would be tested in order to determine their suitability for the competitions.
The $154 million facility would serve as the site for swimming, handball, badminton, table tennis, tennis, indoor volleyball, and triathlons, according to the LOC’s Technical Handbook.
More than 13,000 participants from over the continent are anticipated by Ghana to see the innovative continental showcase in Accra.
