President Akufo-Addo has urged Kayserispor attacker, Asamoah Gyan to rescind his decision of retiring from the Black Stars.
The President urged the former Sunderland forward during a meeting with the Minister for Youth and Sports, Hon.lsaac Kwame Asiamah,Head coach of the Black Stars, James Kwesi Appiah and the Management Committee alongside the Normalization Committee at the Jubilee House in Accra today.
According to reports from the Jubilee House, President Akufo-Addo spoke with Gyan on the telephone and informed him of the considerable national disquiet over his decision to retire from the Black Stars.
Kyfilla.com understands, the President urged the all-time leading topscorer of the Black Stars, Asamoah Gyan, in the national interest, to rescind his decision to retire from the Black Stars and make himself available for selection.
Reports say, Asamoah Gyan accepted to rescind his decision and to accept the general captain role in the Black Stars for the AFCON 2019 which will be hosted by Egypt.
The President, also in the meeting, discussed amongst others, the preparations being made towards the AFCON 2019, and how to end the Ghana’s AFCON trophy drought.
Meanwhile, coach James Akwasi Appiah, after the meeting also accepted to take the team to the AFCON 2019 after earlier reports suggest that, the 58-year old had told the Jubilee House to resign should Asamoah Gyan be brought back to the national team.

The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, this afternoon, held a meeting with the Minister for Youth and Sports, the President of the GFA Normalisation Committee, and the Chair of the Management Committee of the Senior National Football Team, the Black Stars. The meeting, a continuation of the regular meetings the President holds with them, discussed, amongst others, the preparations being made towards AFCON 2019, and how to end Ghana’s AFCON trophy drought.
President Akufo-Addo, subsequently, also spoke on the telephone with Asamoah Gyan, and informed him of the considerable national disquiet over his decision to retire from the Black Stars. The President urged him, in the national interest, to rescind his decision to retire from the Black Stars, and make himself available for selection by Coach Kwasi Appiah.
