Recent developments in Ghana football governance seem to be progressively leading towards an increasing abuse use of the laws of the game for refereeing which was depicted by the #12 of Anas Aremeyaw Anas (Alleged).
Opponents to change are often portrayed as old-fashioned and conservative. Philosophy might be of some help to overcome the dispute. In this I first explore several concepts that are central to the current debate on football refereeing.
Then, I try to determine the business of referees in relation to rules. I looked at different arguments displayed regarding the role of chance and skills in competitions. Finally am of the view that the idea of referees as full players in football business.
Below are some suggestions if looked at can help curb the menace of match fixing if it really exist as speculated on the part of match officials (referees)
- All referees in Ghana must undergo a refereeing school or course and must be employed on well paid salary structure with a refereeing company registered with the registrar general department and incorporated in Ghana to do business. With this if for example a referee officiated a match and it was evident that he or she decided the outcome of the match, his company will take him or her on and that can even lead to the termination of his contract and also taken to the law court and also the victim team can sue also the referring company
- GFA must employ the referees, sign a one season contract with which can only be reviewed upon recommendations from teams and CEOs and pay them monthly on a well calculated salary structure. The GFA must also have some selected hotels in the regions and some District that can provide accommodation and feeding to these match officials, which those hotels will bill the GFA for the services provided to the referees, the GFA must also sign contract with a transportation company like STC that can provide transportation to these referees just by them showing weekly appointment letter to the conductors and their individual ID cards. Their allowances should be paid 24 maximum hours after the said matches. These will help prevent the match officials in contacting the home teams for accommodations and lodging issues which becomes the platform for match fixing.
