Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, a member of parliament for the South Dayi constituency in the Volta Region, has expressed regret to Asamoah Gyan, the legendary Black Star.
With six goals in the World Cup, Gyan, who is currently a businessman, is the highest-scoring African player ever.
Dafeamekpor had alleged that the retired striker deliberately missed the penalty against Uruguay during the 2010 FIFA World Cup finals in South Africa because his party wasn’t in power.
Gyan belongs to the New Patriotic Party (NPP), which is currently in power in Ghana, whereas Dafeamekpor is a part of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), which is the main opposition party in the nation.
Since then, Gyan, the all-time top goalscorer for the Ghana national team with 51 goals, has received an apology from Dafeamekpor on his official X page.
“The Black Stars and other National Teams have iconically rallied & carried our passions, dreams, and aspirations for glory to the world,” Dafeamekpor wrote.“Upon reflection & calls from people like Kenpong, I retract & unreservedly apologize to Asamoah Gyan, for my comments.”
