President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Mr. Sammy Gyamfi, Esq., as the Acting Managing Director of the Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC). In his new role, Mr. Gyamfi will spearhead the establishment of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), a key initiative outlined in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) 2024 manifesto.
The GoldBod is a top priority for the Mahama administration, aimed at revitalizing the mining sector and ensuring sustainable management and marketing of Ghana’s gold resources. The board’s establishment will fall under the purview of the Minister for Finance and will focus on formalizing the small-scale gold mining sector while providing essential support services for the industry.
Mr. Sammy Gyamfi, a seasoned lawyer and Economic Policy Analyst, brings a wealth of academic and professional expertise to his new position. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science and a Bachelor of Law degree from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. Additionally, he earned his Barrister at Law certificate from the Ghana School of Law and an MA in Economic Policy Management from the University of Ghana.
An alumnus of the prestigious Harvard Kennedy School, Mr. Gyamfi has completed Executive Certificates in Emerging Leaders and Strategic Leadership programs. His professional experience includes a role with Exton Cubic Group Limited, a reputable mining company in Ghana. He also serves as the National Communications Officer for the NDC.
The establishment of the GoldBod is expected to streamline Ghana’s gold mining sector, creating economic opportunities and benefiting the Ghanaian people. President Mahama’s administration views this initiative as a significant step toward economic revitalization.
The appointment was officially announced on January 16, 2025, by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Acting Spokesperson to the President.
