Ghana defender, Dennis Odoi believes Saudi Arabia’s surprising victory against Argentina could serve as an inspiration for Ghana ahead of Portugal clash in the FIFA World Cup.[ads2]
Ghana, ranked the least side in the World Cup will come face-to-face against one of the tournament favorites in Portugal at the Stadium 974 on Thursday, November 24, 2022.
And even though Portugal is considered highly favorite to win the game, Dennis Odoi believes the Saudi Arabia 2:1 victory against Lionel Messi-led Argentina side yesterday could serve as an inspiration for Ghana.
He said, “Of course, seeing what Saudi Arabia have achieved just proves that you have to play all the matches. It’s not because you are a smaller country than your opponent that everything is a foregone conclusion. And then, based on my experience, this season in the Champions League, nobody would have given us a chance to go to the round of 16. And yet, after four matches, we qualified. So my takeaway is that when you play as a team, you can do anything.”[ads3]
Meanwhile, Portugal defender Ruben Dias has charged his teammates to beat Ghana before thinking about winning the tournament in Qatar.
Speaking at a press conference, the Manchester City defender said, “For everyone, the only thing on our mind is to beat Ghana. Without it, everything is different. We have to think one game at a time because it’s the best way to chart a victorious path. Now the focus is on beating Ghana and nothing else,”the Manchester City defender said at a press conference.[ads4]
When asked about the confidence of the Portugal team, Dias said, “I can only speak with propriety of what I think. And my conviction is that we cannot think about it [winning the trophy], we have to think game by game.
“I’ve seen teams that started to draw or lose and won, that can be relative. But we always want to win. In a competition like this, it is important to remember that it is a long competition and we need to have a lot of resilience.”[ads5]
