Two drivers and a co-driver were killed in a fiery collision. In contrast, two others were injured after a head-on collision between two vehicles in Yapei, located in the central Gonja district of the Savannah Region.
The incident occurred around 6 p.m. on Saturday, October 28, 2023, involving an articulated truck and a freight wagon carrying salt.
A witness who recounted the incident to Asaase News said the driver of the articulated truck, coming from the Tamale direction, was exchanging a phone call.
As he approached the sharp turn after going down the Yapei Bridge, he lost control of his vehicle, swerving into the oncoming lane, leading to a head-on collision with the truck on the way from Buipe.
It is known that the wagon carried four people, including the driver, while the articulated truck had only one driver. Yapei Assemblyman Iddi Kamil confirmed that the injured were quickly transferred to the Yapei clinic for treatment.
Meanwhile, the bodies of the three dead victims were taken to Buipe Hospital for examination and preservation.
