On Valentine’s Day fourteenth February, football enthusiasts and supporters came together under the hashtag “SaveGhanaFootball”, to demonstrate against authorities in the Ghana football fraternity and demand reforms.
The poor performance of the Ghana Blacks in the most recent Afcon 2023 competition, which was held in Ivory Coast, served as the catalyst for this demonstration. However, the fundamental issues hampering the development of Ghana football are beyond the team’s on-field performances of the Black Stars and this was manifested during the demonstration.
Amongst the many concerns by protestors was the call for proper maintenance of football pitches and other National Stadia.
According to the protestors, the National Sports Authority and government have and can generate enough funds to improve the quality of Ghana’s stadia. Some had the plea that a re-schuffle be done at the NSA and the Sports Ministry so as to bring about changes.
The protestors have put before authorities and Ghana’s legislature a petition which will help steer Ghana football to the promised land.
