The Seventh Day Adventist Church (SDA), as part of its complementary role towards creating access to health care delivery to all, has achieved another milestone with the commissioning of an ultra-modern hospital Annex aimed at expanding the Nagel Memorial Adventist Hospital in Takoradi.
The Nagel Memorial Adventist Hospital annex is expected to offer affordable and accessible healthcare to residents of the Twin City and its environs. The NAGEL Hospital Annex has been established to take care of special cases, including eye, ear, nose, dental and a special dietitian unit. The facility also has a state of the art medical laboratory, and VVIP wards.

Commissioning the project, Medical Superintendent of the Hospital, Dr. Edward Duku indicated that, the Nagel Memorial Adventist Hospital Annex has come about as a result of the growing number of special cases which the main hospital could not handle.
“In 2017, it became apparent that the hospital is not big enough to accommodate what we wanted to achieve as a hospital: as in achieving universal health coverage to every individual within the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis, and so a plan was put in place by the then Management to enable staff trained in special areas such as eye, A&T, and dental, so that we can also have a Unit established in order to serve the purpose for which we are called a district hospital” he said.
According to Dr. Duku, plans are far advanced for the church to establish a regional hospital in the metropolis.
”We know that the hospital will continue to grow, and grow and grow. It is our privilege and prayer as well that in the coming years we will be able to put up a befitting hospital like a regional hospital, and that will be done on our plot of land at Apowa,” he added.
The Country Manager of Medical Credit Fund, financiers of the project, Derick Ewudzie was appreciative of being a part of the project. According to him, Medical Credit Fund is available to assist projects of such kinds.
