Ivory Coast and Borussia Dortmund’s Sebastian Haller has been nominated for the World Comeback of the Year Award 2024.
He is one of the 6 nominees vying to succeed Danish player Christian Eriksen after his exploits with Ivory Coast during the AFCON tournament.
The Ivory Coast striker was diagnosed with testicular cancer a few weeks after arriving at Borussia Dortmund, where he had signed a €31 million contract from Ajax to replace Erling Haaland, who had left to play for Manchester City.
After six months of treatment, the 29-year-old striker was able to return to the team. He scored an eight-minute hat-trick in a 6-0 friendly against Basel and two weeks later scored a goal against Freiburg, fittingly, on World Cancer Day
He was nominated alongside several well-known athletes, including Jamal Murray and popular gymnast Simone Biles.
These are all nominees.
