The Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Chief Executive, Abdul Mumin Issah has been granted Gh¢100,000 bail after assaulting a police officer.
The astute politician was granted bail with three sureties when he appeared before the Takoradi Harbour Circuit Court presided by His Honour Michael Ampadu on Thursday, February 4, 2022.
Mr. Mumin Issah was arrested and detained by the Western Regional Police Command for careless driving and assaulting a police officer verbally.[ads2]
He has been charged with three counts of assault on public officer, offensive conduct and disturbing public peace following exchanges with Superintendent Andrew Sarfo near the Kwesimintsim Cemetery snap checkpoint on February 2, 2022.
Before granting the bail and adjourning the case to March 17, the Presiding Judge cautioned that, ” the offenses are bailable, but I want to first sound a word of caution without saying the Mayor is guilty. Any person or group of persons who attempt to prevent the security agencies to perform their duties is not a friend of the State. Not because he is guilty, but the fact that he is standing in the box makes me disappointed…Having said that, I grant him a bail in the sum of GHS100,000 with three sureties and adjourn the case to 17th March“, he warned.[ads3]
Meanwhile, President Akufo-Addo has suspended Abdul Mumin Issah as Sekondi-Takoradi MCE with immediate effect following his altercations with the police officer.
