[ads1]The Youth and Sports Minister, Honorable Isaac Kwame Asiamah has urged Ghanaian athletes to serve the country with diligence.
According to the Sports Minister, if an athlete serve the country wholeheartedly, definitely the country will in the near future repay the hardworks.
Hon. Asiamah was speaking in relation to the payment that the government of Ghana under the administration of President Akufo-Addo made to the legendary Ghanaian boxer DK Poison.[ads2]
It would be recalled that President Akufo-Addo directed the Finance Ministry to pay the legendary boxer $45,000 that the country was owing him for over forty-four (44) years ago.
DK Poison in somewhere 1976 loaned to the government of Ignatius Kutu Acheampong an amount of $45,000 out of his purse of $75,000 from his second title defence against Japanese Shig Fukuyama for the purchase of some food commodities for the country.
After 44 years, President Akufo-Addo has paid the legendary boxer the $45,000 which was about some weeks ago as earlier reported by Kyfilla.com.[ads3]
Speaking on Kumasi-based Hello FM, Honorable Isaac Kwame Asiamah believes the payment of the loan will encourage the younger generation to serve the country diligently.
“It’s been about 44 years now since he started asking for his money. We went through his documents and saw that it was genuine so President Akufo-Addo felt it was right to honour him”, he said.
“The man is happy now and I believe that the gesture from the president will encourage others to do their best for the country whenever they compete in any competition”[ads4]
“It’s an indication that if you are an athlete and you serve the country well, the nation will reward you for your hard work”
“It’s not about D.K Poison as a person but it’s a big statement from the President that if you work hard you’ll be honoured. It will motivate and inspire the younger generation”
“Am happy that we took that decision and I can confirm to you that he’s gotten his money”, Honorable Asiamah added.
