Janet Egyir and Gifty Ntsiful are the two players from Hasaacas Ladies GFA-NC Special Cup title winning team that had a nod to the Black Queens squad for the 2019 WAFU Cup.
Hasaacas Ladies despite starting slowly, impressively regrouped to lift the novelty cup after beating Ampem Darkoa Ladies 3-2 in the final which took place last Sunday, April 14 at the El Wak Stadium.
It is rather shocking that only Janet Egyir and 15-year-old Grace Ntsiful made the list despite certain individuals impressing outstandingly in the team’s 11 games played.
Ntsiful, 15, played in Hasaacas Ladies initial 3 group games against Ladystrikers, Sea Lions and Soccer Intellectuals which the team ended with just a point after losing the initial 2 games 2-1 and 4-1 respectively – Perpertual Agyekum scored both consolations.
The Hasmal Ladies newbie fell off the pecking order and was subsequently on the bench throughout the entire tournament.
Janet Egyir who was the best player in the maiden edition of the WAFU Cup once again has garnered a slot in the provisional squad.
But rather shocking, midfield sensational, Evelyn Badu, Lucy Kwofie, Linda Eshun and Perpertual Agyekum have been ignored from the provisional squad.
It came to many as though the head coach of Black Queens, Coach Mercy Tagoe did not follow the tournament as she should have.
The trio combined to produce 14 goals for Hasaacas Ladies as they lifted the tournament.
Evelyn Badu scored 4 goals including a screamer in the final, a first of 3 comeback goals when Hasaacas Ladies had conceded 2 early goals against Ampem Darkoa Ladies. She was the linkage for the team, from the midfield to the attack and deserves a tryout, however.
Set piece specialist, Perpertual Agyekum who ended the tournament with 9 goals in 11 games and snatched the goal queen accolade was surprisingly not among the 30 best players for the tournament, not forgetting she’s able to play on the left back position, as a central midfielder and left wing.
Linda Eshun who easily slots in four different positions, right, left back positions, central defense or a defensive midfielder) was also left out. Her experience gannered over the years wasn’t able to buy her a slot.
And finally, Lucy Kwofie, not just right back but can play in a left back or a right wing position. She scored a goal in the campaign from a right back position against Sea Lions Ladies, which saw Hasaacas Ladies book a slot to the final.
