The president of the Republic of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, has assured Ghanaians that there will not be any secrecy or cover-up regarding money spent on the national teams. Speaking during his first State of the Nation Address, the president emphatically stated that the time when the FA comes up with its own budget is over, as it will be public in his administration.
Ghana Football has seen a severe decline, and the budget that is mostly drawn for the teams doesn’t yield any productive benefits. The more money that is pumped into the teams, the more they fail to make any impact during competitions. Ghanaian teams no longer have the fear factor they used to. In view of all these instances, the president said in his speech that,
“There will be no secrecy in how much the government spends on the national team. The budget presented by the FA and other associations must be made public, as it is taxpayers’ money.
Mr Mahama was sworn in on January 7, 2025 and this is his first SONA since he became the president of Ghana.
