A number of sports journalists in Ghana have secured a police permit to hold a nationwide protest against the Sports Ministry and the Ghana Football Association.
These individuals have been triggered by Ghana’s underwhelming performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Ghana was eliminated with just two points after a loss to Cape Verde and consecutive 2-2 draws with Egypt and Cape Verde.
Among the notable journalists leading this protest is Saddick Adams, (often referred to as “Sports Obama”). Along with Veronica Commey, Patrick Osei Agyemang, also known as “Countryman Songo,” is involved. Odiahenkan, Nana Yaw Kesse, and other individuals have also backed the cause.
The purpose of the demonstration, which is set for February 14, 2024, is to make the government accountable. The GFA and the Sports Ministry are being questioned for the national teams’ underwhelming results in recent competitions.
The journalists claim that in order to guarantee better results in significant competitions, immediate action must be made.
The journalists are demanding not only accountability but also the immediate dissolution of the GFA-established Committee responsible for selecting a new coach. They contend that in light of the team’s appalling performance, a thorough evaluation ought to be carried out before deciding to appoint a new coaching staff.
