Former Ghana Black Stars midfielder Sulley Muntari has revealed how Asamoah Gyan was given the Black Stars captaincy over him. The revelation has got people talking as most Ghanaians didn’t know what transpired before the captaincy was given to Gyan.
Muntari narrated that he was made the Black Stars captain in two of Ghana’s crucial matches and he even captained against Lesotho in Kumasi but was later bypassed and Asamoah Gyan was installed as the captain but he didn’t hesitate to question the authorities. He narrated on how Asamoah Gyan was given the captaincy over him.
“I was the captain for the game against Lesotho in Kumasi and another match. When we went to Sudan, they gave the captaincy to Asamoah, and I was like, ‘No, I’m supposed to be the captain.
I walked into Asa’s room and told him, ‘Asa, I am supposed to be the captain, not you. If Baffour (Gyan’s older brother) was around and they gave me the captaincy, I wouldn’t take it because I know he deserves it. It’s the same thing here. He said, ‘Muta, I went there, and they made me sign everything,’ and I said, ‘Okay.’ He told 3Sports.
