The Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) officially unveiled its Secretariat on August 30, 2024, in a grand ceremony attended by dignitaries from the sports and media industry, representatives from the National Sports Authority, the Ghana Journalists Association, and the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
The establishment of the Secretariat marks a significant milestone for SWAG, providing a physical base for the association’s operations and enhancing its capacity to serve its members and promote sports journalism in Ghana. The modern and well-equipped Secretariat will serve as a hub for training, networking, and advocacy activities.
The unveiling ceremony was graced by the presence of the SWAG President Kwabena Yeboah who in his keynote address that the Secreteriat will go a long way to provide a conducive environment for SWAG members to thrive and influence sports development in Ghana.
Among other guests and speakers were the GJA President, Chief Director Of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Mr William Kartey and the NSA boss and Deputy
who delivered inspiring speeches emphasizing the importance of sports journalism in promoting sports development and fostering national unity. The event also featured a tour of the Secretariat’s facilities and a networking session for members of the media.
The establishment of the SWAG Secretariat is a testament to the association’s commitment to professionalism, excellence, and advocacy for sports journalism in Ghana. It is expected to play a pivotal role in elevating the standards of sports reporting and fostering a vibrant sports media landscape in the country.
