A SWAT team raided Sean Kingston’s rented Florida mansion and took his mother into custody on charges of theft and fraud related to the installation of a massive TV.
On Thursday, detectives arrested his mother, Janice Turner, 61, at the home in a Fort Lauderdale suburb that is well-liked by famous people and athletes, such as Tyreek Hill of the Miami Dolphins and Dwayne Johnson.
In addition to stating that the investigation is ongoing, the sheriff’s office would not comment on the specific charges against Turner or whether her 34-year-old son is also being looked for.
Local media reported Kingston was out of town and was not present during the raid, in which items were removed and loaded into a van by the authorities.
The 2007 single Beautiful Girls, Fire Burning by the Jamaican-American musician and his 2007 collaboration on Eenie Meenie with Justin Bieber are his most well-known works.
According to records from federal courts, his mother served almost a year and a half in prison after entering a guilty plea to bank fraud in 2006 for stealing more than $160,000 (£126,088).
Kingston wrote in an Instagram post on Thursday, which was later removed: “People love negative energy!
“I am good, and so is my mother! My lawyers are handling everything as we speak.”
In an interview with the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, attorney Robert Rosenblatt, who represents the rapper and his mother, said, “These are fine people, and I would be surprised if the allegations were true.”
According to Florida Department of Corrections records, Kingston is on a two-year probationary period for trafficking in stolen goods.
Attorney Dennis Card, who was present during the arrest, stated that it has something to do with a lawsuit he filed against Kingston in February, in which he is accused of defrauding a company that installed a 232-inch television in Florida.
According to Ver Ver Entertainment, Kingston made contact with the company in September with the intention of purchasing the television—which is marketed under the name Colossal TV—and having it installed at his house. The TV system is valued $150,000 (£118,000).
