Confusion rocks the Referees Association of Ghana and the Western regional branch of referees as the Takoradi-based referees boycott Division Two matches over the weekend because of unpaid arrears.
The Western Regional Football Association (WRFA) brought in some referees from Tarkwa to officiate the games that the referees from Takoradi had refused to work after the boycotts.
The referees from Takoradi, however, were incensed about this decision and wondered how their Tarkwa colleagues could accept to officiate. They perceive their acceptance to officiate as a betrayal.
Meanwhile, the Western Regional Football Association and the Referees Association of Ghana’s western regional branch have not yet responded to the incident.
