Takoradi Technical University witnessed a momentous occasion as it bestowed prestigious awards upon individuals and organizations that have left an indelible mark in the world of sports in the Western Region.
The Annual Sports Awards event, organized by the Sports and Recreation Committee, under the auspices of the Vice Chancellor Rev. J.F. Eshun and the Chairman of the Governing Council Dr Samuel AmoTobbin, celebrated remarkable achievements and contributions in various aspects of sports.
Honoring A Visionary: Dr. Samuel Amo Tobbin
Amid a gathering of esteemed guests, the University bestowed a distinguished honor upon Dr. Samuel Amo Tobbin, Chairman of the Governing Council and president of Tobinco Group of Companies, in recognition of his monumental contributions to the university community.
Specifically, his pivotal role in the construction of the state-of-the-art Samuel Amo Tobbin Sports Complex has left an indelible mark on TTU.
Meritorious Honour – Rev. Professor John Frank Eshun
In recognition of his exceptional leadership and tireless efforts to enhance sports development within the University, Rev. Professor John Frank Eshun, Vice Chancellor of Takoradi Technical University, was honored with the Meritorious Honour.
His visionary initiatives and dedication have elevated the University’s sports profile both nationally and globally.
The award paid tribute to his exemplary commitment to fostering a culture of excellence and unity through sports.
Meritorious Honour – Hasaacas Ladies Football Club
Celebrating a groundbreaking achievement in contemporary female football, the Meritorious Honour was extended to the trailblazing Hasaacas Ladies Football Club.
Their outstanding performances within Ghana and on the global stage have shattered stereotypes and positioned them as beacons of inspiration.
The citation presented by the University commended their efforts in using women’s football as a platform for empowerment and celebrates their representation of the mantra “THE BEST IS IN THE WEST.”
Achievers Honour – Medeama Sporting Club
A celebration of triumph on the football field, the Achievers Honour was bestowed upon the exceptional Medeama Sporting Club.
Their journey to becoming the Champions of the 2022/2023 Ghana Premier League restored the Western Region’s prominence and established them as a football powerhouse, earning them a place in Ghana’s Hall of League Champions.
Legendary Award – Mr. George Kuntu Blankson
A legendary figure in sports broadcasting, Mr. George Kuntu Blankson received the Legendary Award for his iconic presence on the radio spanning over a generation.
The award paid homage to his legacy as a trailblazer and catalyst for dedication and long service in sports journalism.
Golden Partnership – Kyfilla.com
The Golden Partnership award recognized Kyfilla.com’s unwavering commitment to promoting positive and constructive reporting across various domains.
The University acknowledged the role of the portal in covering sports events and contributing to developmental initiatives.
Forging Sports Excellence through Corporate Contributions
In a post-awards night media interaction, Mr. Joseph Danso, Chairman of the Sports and Recreation Committee, highlighted the significance of the Corporate Awards in acknowledging the pivotal role played by corporate entities.
He emphasized that the University values and recognizes the substantial contributions made by these organizations, ranging from financial support to resources, facilities, and expertise.
