The Sekondi High Court will on Tuesday, June 22, 2021 sit on the NDC election petition against the declaration of George Mireku Duker as the member of parliament for Tarkwa-Nsuaem.
This comes after the NDC petitioned the court to declare the Tarkwa-Nsuaem parliamentary results as null and void due to irregularities in the results.[ads2]
An earlier statement from the constituency office of the NDC said the decision to go to court follows an audit of the results and wide consultations with the National and the Regional Executive Committees of the party.
The party said it found “serious violations” of the electoral laws and “many irregularities” in the results declared by the returning officer hence their decision.[ads3]
Among other things, it wants the court to declare as null and void the declaration of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate for the constituency, George Mireku Duker as the elected Member of Parliament.
They also want the Electoral Commission to be compelled to re-collate the parliamentary results from all 252 polling stations.[ads4]
The party believes that people voted in some polling stations without verification hence the court must nullify votes cast in those polling stations.
The court is expected to sit on the case at 9:00am on the aforementioned date.[ads5]
