In the late 1980s, one Mr. Kwabena Asante who is the founder of Tarkwa United migrated from Accra to Tarkwa in search of a job opportunity. Before his arrival, there were five teams already in the Tarkwa town, Daakye football club, Rail stars, Young farmers, and Great Wonders from Kanfonadze in Tarkwa.
These teams had suffered brutalities from each other, some even result in serious injuries after matches consistently. They played in the middle league for a very long time without qualification to the First Division league. Even though Mr. Kwabena Asante was a supporter of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, he realized that Tarkwa had a lot of talent that when combined can provide such a formidable force to reckon with.

He proposed the agenda in the year 1991 which was finally accepted. The five traditional teams were merged together and formed on the 6th of February 1991 as Real Tarkwa United.
Everybody was brought on board, management team members, coaches and the footballers including the supporters, some agreed and others refused. There was a strong team formed at the end of the day for Tarkwa united. The team was able to dominate the western region together with Eleven Wise and Hasaacas who were the two other traditional teams in the western region. Tarkwa united qualified to play in the Middle league and that was the first time a team from Tarkwa qualified to play in the middle league.
The popular slogan of Tarkwa United ‘‘Yensuro’’ was derived from that of Sekondi college where Mr. Asante obtained his second cycle education.
