A devastating helicopter crash in the Hudson River, New York on Thursday afternoon claimed the lives of all six individuals on board, including a Spanish executive, his wife, their three young children, and the pilot.
Authorities confirmed that the aircraft, a tourist helicopter, went down under catastrophic circumstances, with multiple eyewitnesses reporting that it appeared to break apart midair.
The victims have been identified as Agustín Escobar, a senior executive with Siemens, a major European technology conglomerate—along with his wife, Merce Camprubí Montal, and their three children, ages 4, 5, and 11.
The family was visiting New York City from Spain at the time of the incident. The pilot, a 36-year-old male whose identity has not yet been released publicly, also perished in the crash.
Sources confirmed that Escobar was the CEO of Siemens’ division in Spain and was in New York with his family for vacation. The sightseeing flight turned tragic when the helicopter plunged into the Hudson River in what officials described as a fiery crash, leaving no survivors.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) are investigating the crash to determine the exact cause, including whether mechanical failure or structural issues led to the midair disintegration of the aircraft.
