The Pro-Vice Chancellor of Takoradi Technical University (TTU), Prof. Victor Kwaku Bondzie-Micah, has announced that the University would be sponsoring key delegates, including women, to the 2023 ATUPA Conference to be hosted in Accra.
This initiative aims to enhance awareness among TVET stakeholders about current trends in TVET and specific economic factors relevant to Africa.
The announcement was made during the induction ceremony of the new Convocation Board of TTU on August 10, 2023. Dr. Adelaide Spio-Kwofie, Judith McClain-Afful, Dr. Kofi Kwarteng, Joseph Mensah Oti-Asirifi, Bernard Mayne, Hafix Adam, Richard Anfo Apori, Daniel Kumi Owusu, Olivia Agyeman, and Oppan Kojo Ennin, were formally introduced as the new Convocation Board of the University.
In her acceptance speech, Dr. Adelaide Spio-Kwofie recognized the accomplishments of the previous leadership and expressed gratitude to the University community for entrusting them with their roles.

Dr. Adelaide Spio-Kwofie highlighted the determination of the new Board to build on past achievements, and aspire for greater success with the support of all stakeholders. She emphasized the significance of unity and collaboration, underscoring the importance of addressing potential challenges openly and finding mutually beneficial solutions.
Formation of ATUPA and Conference Background
The Association of Technical Universities and Polytechnics in Africa (ATUPA) emerged from a resolution passed by the General Assembly of Heads of Member Institutions of the Commonwealth Association of Technical Universities and Polytechnics in Africa (CAPA) in August 2019.

This decision was later ratified by the Ministers of Education from African Union member states in December 2019.
TTU’s Commitment and Objectives
Addressing the Convocation on behalf of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Victor Kwaku Bondzie-Micah, the Pro Vice Chancellor, emphasized TTU’s commitment to sponsoring key delegates, including women, for the ATUPA conference.
He encouraged the Convocation Board to increase the University’s presence across various platforms. He shared that “TTU aims to actively engage in the conference discussions, with the aim of exploring for opportunities to strengthen partnerships and develop a robust knowledge infrastructure that empowers staff and students, drives industrialization, fosters inclusive economic growth, and promotes decent work opportunities”.
ATUPA’s Mission and Conference Theme
ATUPA’s primary mission is to support professional and skills development in TVET institutions across Africa.
The forthcoming ATUPA Conference is hosted by Ghana between August 27 and September 2, and carries the theme “Mainstreaming TVET for Skills Development, Mobility, and Resilient Economies in Africa.”.
