Renowned journalist and writer Kwabena Yeboah has joined the chorus of people urging the inclusion of Richmond Lamptey, a midfielder for Asante Kotoko, in Ghana’s squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
The dynamic midfielder, according to him, is the finest player in the Ghana Premier League, and it would be a disgrace to leave out the top player from the domestic league from the AFCON roster.
Following his performance for Kotoko in their 3-2 victory over Hearts of Oak in the nation’s greatest match, Richmond Lamptey has sparked a call-up to the Black Stars. His technical prowess and passing left many in amazement, as several Ghanaians feel a player of his caliber should be starting for the Black Stars.
“We cannot go to Cote d’Ivoire leaving the Premier League’s best midfielder behind. It would be an indictment on our league. Besides, Lamptey is better than some of the midfielders in the team. It shouldn’t be a crime for one to play in Ghana,” Ace Journalist Kwabena Yeboah explained.
It is anticipated that Ghana would announce its 2023 AFCON team later in December, as the tournament is slated to take place in Ivory Coast in January 2024.
