[ads1]The new Liquid Bulk Terminal at the Takoradi Port has been commissioned by the Vice President of the republic, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
The facility, constructed by Amandi Ghana Limited boast of a modern loading structures , and with a birth of minus 14 meters to receive loading vessels for all petroleum products.
It has, also loading arms for 5 petroleum products, and has a birth facility which is designed to support up to 60k petroleum cargo carries .it is expected to provide about 50 percent of the country’s domestic oil consumption,and enhance the transhipment of petroleum products to other countries.[ads2]
With Ghanaian company, IBISTEK partnering the Ghana Port and Harbours Authority, the Takoradi Port Expansion project is being transformed into a ultramodern marine facility.
Speaking at the commissioning exercise, Dr. Bawumia disclosed the government vision to make Western Region a petroleum hub through the Port, and as well support the integrated Aluminum and Bauxite Corporation.[ads3]
Mr. Peter Mac Manu, the Board Chairman for GPHA, added that the commissioning of the facility is an evidence to government commitment to FasTrack the development of the Port, in line with the national development goals..
Adding to the infrastructure at the Port of the Takoradi, the President cut sod for the Phase III of the construction of the Dry Bulk Terminal, which is christened the Atlantic Terminal Limited.
With an operational capacity of just 6.5 million metric tonnes per annum for bulk cargo, this facility will bring to total the capacity of the Port to handle about 18.5million metric tonnes each year.
Work on this project is expected to be completed in second quarter of 2022, Minister for Transport Kwaku Ofori Asiamah has hinted.
