Today, August 31 marks the 87th birthday anniversary of Ghana Premier powerhouse Asante Kotoko and the former executive chairman of the club, Herbert Mensah has joined the celebration.
Herbert Mensah, an astute sports administrator who is arguably the best CEO ever in the history Kotoko, has sent a heartwarming message to the club in commemoration of their 87th birthday celebration.
In a video, Mr Mensah indicated that despite the team’s recent decline in Africa, Kotoko continue to remain one of the powerhouses of African football, stating that Kotoko is an institution in African football and not just a football club.
He was of the firm believe that with the support of supporters and everyone affiliated to the Asante Kotoko brand, the current management are capable of revitalising the club for glory in Africa.[ads2]
Herbert Mensah was appointed board chairman of Asante Kotoko SC by the then Asantehene, Otumfuo Opoku Ware II, in 1999.
Mr Mensah set out to restore the success of earlier glories of the then failing club by implementing a five-year plan, which included sponsorships, the introduction of professional training facilities, and a transparent financial approach to the books.

After a successful spell at Asante Kotoko, Herbert Mensah left the club in 2003 and later became involved in running a rival club in the Ashanti Region, AshGold.
