The National Sports Authority (Western b Region) in collaboration with Sekondi Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly disinfected the Sekondi Sports Stadium on Monday, April 20, 2020 to mitigate against the spread of Coronavirus pandemic.
The stadium has been closed down to the general public since the ban on social gatherings was announced by the government.

As part of measures to ensure that, the stadium is safe for use by the public, the leadership of the National Sports Authority, led by Professor Peter Twumasi, decided to disinfect various stadia across the length and breadth of the country.

Almost all the major stadia in the country have been disinfected and the Western region had its turn to disinfect every nook and cranny of the edifice on Monday, 20th April,2020.

Speaking to Kyfilla.com after the exercise, the Acting Western Regional Sports Director, Mr. Joseph Alabi Bortey stated that, the rationale behind the disinfection was to ensure that, the facility was pegged of any virus in line with government’s efforts to mitigate the spread of the novel coronavirus, which the nation is currently grappling with.
He expressed his gratitude to the able leadership of the Director- General, Prof. Peter Twumasi for his guidance .He further thanked the Regional Minister and the Chief Executive Officer, STMA for their support in ensuring that the exercise was carried out on schedule.
Mr. Alabi Bortey was however very hopeful that with the measures put in place by government, the covid-19 would soon be defeated to give way for sports development in the region and the country as a whole.
