The Youth & Sports Minister Hon. Isaac Kwame Asiamah on Monday, February 17, 2020 inspected the deteriorated Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

The sector minister alongside the National Sports Authority boss Professor Peter Twumasi inspected the stadium ahead of the upcoming Independence Day celebration scheduled for March 6, 2020.
Mr. Asiamah in an interview with media personnel during the inspection exercise, highlighted the government’s intentions to revamp sports infrastructure in the country.
He mentioned that, as part of revamping sports infrastructure in the country, the government has decided to renovate the various stadia and just like the Accra Sports Stadium, the Baba Yara & Sekondi Sports Stadia are next to undergo massive renovation exercises.

Mr. Asiamah indicated that, the renovation exercises form part of the preparations towards the 2023 All African Games which will be hosted in Ghana.
He confirmed that, the Baba Yara Sports Stadium will be closed down with immediate effect to pave way for the renovation exercise and works are expected to be completed in October this year.

The closure of the Baba Yara Sports Stadium means Asante Kotoko, King Faisal and other clubs who use the edifice will have to choose new venues for their league matches.
