It was a day of excitement and joy for most schools as the likes of Takoradi Senior High, Archbishop Porter Girls and Sekondi College dominated in the just ended Head of State Awards.
The awards normally for second cycle students was held at the Residency Garden of the Western Regional Office on last Sunday, 19th May, 2019 in Sekondi with over four hundred students from the various selected schools in the Western region converge for the awards ceremony.
The Western regional minister, Hon. Kobby-Otchere Darko Mensah was the chairman for the occasion which had Saint John’s Schools and Diabene Senior High School excluded because of being newly registered schools.
Out of the 230 awards, Takoradi Senior High School scooped 76 with Archbishop Porter Girls Senior High School plugging 36 while Sekondi College had 23 with Half Assini Senior High School clinching 25 awards.
Fijai Senior High School had 17 with Adiembra Senior High School tapping 15 awards on the day. Methodist Senior High School had 14 while Saint Augustine’s Senior High School located in Bogoso annexed 10 of the awards.
Present at the ceremony was the Western Regional Commander Ghana National Fire Service, Director of Education STMA and EKMA, Regional Coordinating Director, CEO of Justmax Consult, National Program Officer Head of State Award scheme, Regional Program Officer Head of State Award scheme, Headmaster, Headmistress and Assistant Heads of the participating schools, PRO Regional Education Office and the
Link Coordinators of the various Institutions and Supporting Staff
About Head of State Awards
It’s a club at the various second cycle schools across the country where students embark on excursions and exhibitions activities. It also an exciting challenge for students between 14 and 24 years and it has been in existence for over fifty years.
In the Western region, Takoradi Senior High, Archbishop Porter Girls, Fijai Senior High, Sekondi College, Methodist Senior High School, Adiembra Senior High, St Augustine’s Senior High from Bogoso, Half Assini Senior High, St. John’s School and Diabene Senior High are all members.
