The Black Queens of Ghana failed to defend the WAFU Zone B Championship as they were beaten by bitterest rival, the Super Falcons of Nigeria in a semi-final encounter today.
The defending champions now have to battle for a bronze medal after a painful 4:2 shootouts defeat to their counterpart from Nigeria.
The wary encounter ended goalless in the regulation period even though both teams created glaring opportunities.
The defeat means coach Mercy Tagoe Quarcoe’s side dream of defending the trophy has been shuttered by the Super Falcons who are the current champion of the African Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON).
Meanwhile, Nigeria will face off Ivory Coast who crushed Mali 2:1, in the final of the competition while Ghana will battle with Mali for the bronze medal.
