The heated demonstration begun early this morning. Traditional authorities including; Chief of Pepesa Nana Kwaku Nkrumah IV, Chief of Subri Nana Kwabena Amponsah II, Tufohene Dompim Pepesa Nana Awua Okompong VIII, Apinto Gyasehen Nana Adarkwa Yiadom II, etc; were seen clad in red and black regalia, and bands around their wrist and forehead.
The youth were also seen chanting war songs in solidarity to the chiefs’ protest.
The construction of the road begun in 2013 and is being undertaken by Asabea Engineering Works Limited. Years down the lane, the contractor had constructed storm drains and mini drains along the road, and reinforced the base with rocks and clay to avert the perennial floods that occur mostly along the AngloGold gulf pitch in Tarkwa.
However the road gets very dusty during the harmattan, causing some nuisance to households and shops along it, and pedestrians who ply the road. Some ruts and pits have developed due to the heavy vehicular traffic on the road.
In a vehement approach to get their concerns addressed, the chiefs have issued a two weeks ultimatum to get the project completed or face their wrath.
