A Canadian mining company, Xtra-Gold Mining Limited have reported that military personnel operating under government’s anti-galamsey campaign have destroyed their mining equipment.
According to the mining firm, the military personnel burnt sixteen of their excavators and one bulldozer during an operation on May 6, 2021 at their concession in Atiwa West District in the Eastern Region.
The company’s press release stated that they have been operating as a legally registered large scale lease holder since 2006 with five concessions.
They described the military’s actions are “a clear violation of the rule of law” as they did not follow the government’s directive only to destroy the equipment of illegal miners.
They have called for the military personnel in the anti-galamsey to be brought to order “for the good of Ghana and its citizens.”
