Mr. Magnus Kofi Amoatey, NDC Member of Parliament for Yilo Krobo Constituency has noted out that the challenges facing the NPP concerning the implementation of the free SHS is as a result of the troubles created by the ruling government,
He said with that any accusation should be put on the doorstep of the NPP.
Speaking at the World Teachers Day Celebration at Yilo Krobo Senior High School at Somanya in the Eastern Region, he said the NDC is really aware of the rising numbers in SHS enrollment that was why the administrations led by former President Mahama was preparing with the 200 community day schools to ease the congestion. The theme for the celebration was ”The Right to Education means The Right to be a Qualified Teacher”.
Mr Amoatey alleged that the NPP when it came to suspended all plans of the NDC towards the construction of the 200 community day schools to solve the infrastructure deficit, adding that they succeeded in thwarting the effort of the NDC towards the smooth implementation of the Senior High School program He said that when education improved, all other sectors would also improve as he stressed the need for stakeholders not to leave the fate of the education sector in the hands of the politicians.
”Let me emphasize that the party is not against this laudable program to give our youth senior high school education but the implementation is our concern, hence the the challenges that parents and guardians are facing since last academic year”.
The Yilo Krobo Krobo GNAT Secretary Mrs Lydia Fuah, said the government’s free Free SHS policy was laudable but at the primary level increasing opportunity, especially for marginalized communities by adequately staffing, resourcing and improving the several community schools like Klo Aogo in Yilo Krobo and congesting the town and schools would help improve on effective teaching and learning in such deprived schools
